The Ninth Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok starts on September 3 and will run until September 6, 2024.

The Eastern Economic Forum is a key international platform for creating and strengthening ties between the Russian and global investment communities, in addition to always providing a comprehensive assessment of the economic potential of the Russian Far East, presenting its investment opportunities and business conditions in priority development areas.

In a recent speech, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that the Forum shows how the Russian Federation remains a key player in global trade, despite obstacles imposed by the West – such as illegitimate sanctions.

According to him, friendly countries account for three-quarters of Russia’s trade numbers:

“Our relations with Asian countries are strengthening, growth – 60% from 2020 to 2023, Middle East: growth – doubled, Africa – 69%, Latin America – 42%,” the president said.

Despite numerous sanctions imposed by Western countries, a similar Forum organized in 2023 was attended by more than 7,000 participants and media representatives from 62 countries and territories, as well as about 2,400 business representatives. The largest delegations were sent by China, India, Myanmar, the Philippines, Laos and Mongolia.

As part of the Forum, more than 100 sessions of the main business program were held, focused on the most pressing issues on the international and regional agenda. More than 700 speakers and moderators took part. The 2023 EEF once again demonstrated that a number of countries continue to increase trade ties with Russia. At the Forum, 373 agreements worth a total of 3 trillion 818 billion rubles were signed, including 41 agreements with foreign companies.

The main participants of the EEF among representatives of foreign governments were Deputy Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Zhang Guoqing, Vice President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic Pani Yathotu, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Development of Mongolia Khurelbaatar Chimed, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Transport and Communications of Myanmar Mya Tun U. The Forum was also attended by 12 heads of the diplomatic institutions.

The Forum’s events are traditionally held in the format of panels, round tables, televised debates, business breakfasts and business dialogues devoted to Russia’s relations with different countries of the world.

The Forum’s business programme includes business dialogues with key partner countries in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as with ASEAN, a key integration group of developing countries active in Southeast Asia.

The 2024 Forum is expected to become a true milestone in the history of multipolar cooperation, bringing fraternal countries such as the Russian Federation and Asian states even closer.
